Martha's Vineyard Relay for Life

My sister Janette is probably the kindest and most loving person in the world. For the past 8 years she has participated in a 24 hour walk for cancer, it is called the relay for life. She puts together a team of people who not only raise money to help fight cancer but put together raffles, and make bags with loved ones names (who have fought or are still are fighting cancer) to light their path as they walk through the night. We all seem to know or have known a least one person in our lives to have had or is fighting cancer, it is a sad and hard experience for everyone, but it is a good thing we have people like my sister to make this struggle just a little easier. This year she has a personal goal to raise $1,000 for this event, and I would like to help her out by asking you to donate what ever you can to help fight cancer. Birthdays and Helmets

First of all our beautiful baby girl turned 2 which is so hard to believe. And again she got totally spoiled. I do think that she literally believes that she is a princess. She wants what she wants and when she wants it. But at the same time she is such a happy girl and super sweet to her brother. She has discovered that the Lion king is the best movie ever and any girl that wears a dress is a princess.... maybe that is why she always insists on wearing dresses..hmmmmm. She is starting to puts multiple words together like my turn please mommy.. I like that one it's a demand with a please attached to it or shoot ball daddy.. when she plays basketball with BJ. She is just so fun to hear her talk all the time now. And on the other hand her brother just can not get a break. Just a few days ago he received his helmet to make his head not so flat.... and he HATES its!! Every time I have to put it on him he starts balling.. it is so sad. We have to go back to the doctor to make some adjustments and so hopefully he will learn to like it a bit better. Every time he moves it slips down in front of his eyes, so it makes him so mad because then he can see anything. These helmets are alot more work then I thought they were too..... I have to wash it every day and make sure that when he gets sweaty in it I put a cool blow dryer on it to keep the moisture from giving him rash and skin irritations... there is a list of about 20 things I have to do with this helmet every day..... oh the things that become apart of our lives:)..... poor boy.

Busy Busy Busy

I guess we have been a little busy lately so sorry for not updateing sooner....... First of all Spencer is now off of oxygen...... he got off on BJ's birthday which was Feb. 23rd so that was an all around great day!!! We are trying to get him off of his apnea monitor but apearently the company we are going with didnt download the memory to our doctor and so now i'm not sure if they still have it or how he did ..... Oh how I love people!!!! If they do not have the memory saved then he wont get off for another 2 months.... if they do have it still I hope he can get off now. And to add to this poor kids trails he will now be wearing one of those baby helmets. His head is really flat in the back but I guess his head is actually growing sideways instead of front and back. So on friday he got a plaster molding done of his head to make a helmet. We will receive that in two weeks. Poor Spence also has to go to physical therapy once a week for a while because he does not have full movement in his neck so I get to stretch his neck muscles about 3 times a day and then therapy once a week. And let me tell you he HATES his stretching. But honestly over all he is so good about all of these things that we have to do to him.... he is such a great baby. On the other hand.... Brooklyn is turning two this week and is a total hand full. Don't get me wrong she is a good hand full just constantly busy running circles around the kitchen table, holding her baby brother, escaping into the back yard to play in her sandbox and always saying mommy Dance. I think I will try to get her in a dance class to help get some of her energy out. But both kids are so happy and totally love each other. Spencer smiles and laughs every time he sees Brooklyn and she is always saying hi baby and hugging and kissing him. They are just super cute and we love them to bits!!!

Spence is still sweet as anything.... he is starting to smile a whole lot more and talk too.

Brooklyn is starting to want to pick out her own clothes, and boy is it funny.... don't you just love toddlers.

Well this poor baby boy can't get a break yet in life. Just when I thought we had past all of our trials...... we go to the doctor. The doctor has now discovered that Spencer has a hernia that he has to get operated on. So yesterday I took him for a consultation about the surgery and that doctor said that he has a large hernia, which is, in it's own way a good thing. The surgeon said that it is not the biggest one he has ever dealt with, but it is up there on the list. He reassured me that when it comes to hernias.. bigger is better. So in detail his hernia is a hole in the muscle going to the scrotum that didn't have a chance to heal.... because he came so early. And the issue with that is the intestine falls into that hole and if it were a small hole it could get stuck and pinched off. Which would end up being major surgery. So we are scheduled for surgery February 9 and he will stay the night at the hospital so the doctors can make sure that he does not have sleep apnea or issues eating. Well that is what our next trail is to over come and hopefully the last. I will update again soon when we know what is going to happen.

After bath time I decided to take a couple pictures while letting Spence relax without his oxygen and monitors suck to him. He seemed to enjoy not having all the extras on him. Spence is now 1 month old and doing great. Brooklyn loves him and keeps trying to give him toys, diapers, wipes pretty much anything she can get her hands on to throw into his crib. Well to say the least we are doing pretty ok.

We are finally home

We finally got to bring Spencer home on Thursday. He is still on oxygen and a monitor, but is doing well. Brooklyn loves him and is always checking up on him to make sure that he is still sleeping in his crib. The only problem is that she does not understand that she can't touch and hold him..... doctors orders:( We have our first check up on Thursday so hopefully we can get off of all the tubes and monitors that scream in the middle of the night!!

Welcome to the world Brigham Spencer Young V

We are so happy to say that we welcomed Brigham Spencer Young V to this world on October 27 at 10:13pm. He was 5lbs 7oz and 17 inches long. We will be calling him Spencer/Spence..... (we have had a lot of questions about that.) He was on a ventilator, but has now been removed from that. Now he only has a IV in his belly button and a feeding tube in his nose. We are now able to hold his twice a day for skin to skin time, and learning to feed. The doctors predict that he will only be in the NICU for about 3 weeks. He has Jaundice so in some pictures his hat is over his eyes for protection from the lights that he needs to be under.
As for the Labor Story.......... Well it was Wednesday at 6pm..... we had our boy scouts over and BJ was carving pumpkins with them, as I started having contractions. They were very sporadic at this point so I thought it was just the Braxton Hicks contractions... I was so wrong! at 7 after scouts the contractions started getting a little more consistent. I started questioning labor at this point so I called my midwife... they said take a hot shower to try to stop the contractions. Ya that didn't work. So as I laid in bed the midwife called back and asked how I was doing... I said the contractions are getting about 8 minutes apart. She told me she was in SLC and she would start to head down, I asked if there was really anything she could do to stop it and she said no. So I told her to just say in SLC and I will go to the hospital and let her know what happens. So BJ, Brooklyn and I head down to the hospital. At 9:20pm we check in and the nurse tells me that I am dilated to a 6 already. So she grabs the doctor we called my mom to get her down to the hospital to pick up Brooklyn, and then they wheel me in to the operating room. By time this all happens I'm dilated to a 8 and the doctor decides to break my water. I tell him get my husband in here and as BJ is getting ready to hand Brooklyn to the nurse to watch, my mom shows up to take her and BJ gets into the OR and I'm ready to push. I push a few unbearable times and decide I can't do this..... I kept telling BJ that, and he just kinda looked at me like... huh you really don't have a choice... but instead encourages me and says ya you can. As BJ is telling me this the doctor tells me that the baby is posterior and he is not getting oxygen so I need to hurry and get him out. I do one more giant push and he was out. BJ cut the cord... they got the baby breathing (he was soooo purple) and whisked him away. I told BJ to follow the baby while the doctor finished up. About an hour or two later we got to go to the NICU to go visit our baby for the first time. He is a gorgeous baby and I still can't stop looking at him.
Any way overall he is doing great and we want to thank everyone for all the support and prayers that you have given us.

Well on Saturday we decided to go to a corn maze at Thanksgiving point. Brooklyn started off the morning a bit on the cranky side but soon cheered up when she could run around in a corn maze and get lost with daddy. Here are a few pictures of that morning.

Well we got to see our new baby last week and this is it's first picture. Our due date got pushed back to 12-12-10 so that is pretty easy to remember. We were not able to find out the sex yet but we will next month. Brooklyn is going to be the best big sister.... she is starting to say baby and calls every kid.... even ones the same age as her "baby". She has also started to feed her baby dolls there bottles. It is really cute. Brooklyn has had a lot happen the past two weeks.... 1st she got 5 teeth for a grand total of 8 teeth and another on the way. While daddy went to Vegas for his chess tournament Brooklyn got her pacifier taken away... it was a hard week for her but she is doing much better now. She even sleeps sounder. When daddy came back, Auntie Netty came out to visit us from Martha's Vineyard and we went down to Moab for a family reunion ..... she hated to drive and all the crowds but is happy now that we are home again. And last but not least Auntie Lia is out from Texas with her two kids Julia and Colton, who Brooklyn is starting to warm up to. We will post more pictures soon.

A long awaited update

Well it has been a while since I have written about anything, but this is what we have been up to this past month.......
First of all Easter well it was not that great of an Easter for us this year Brooklyn got sick which got BJ and I sick..... but what is Easter without Family celebrations!!! Yup we went to Grandma & Grandpa Young's got them sick, then we went to Grandma & Grandpa Laverty's house and got them sick too.
On may 6th (was my Birthday) Brooklyn stayed with Grandma & Grandpa Laverty and BJ and I went to Vegas with another couple and had a great time! We stayed at the JW Marriott down there and we went to a jousting show at the Excalibur it was so fun. We also went to the Hoover Dam and got a tour of it.
And last but certainly not least Mother's Day Oh how we love our Mother's...... so BJ and I decided to share our news with our families that we will be expecting a new baby into our family in the beginning of December. Yup that's right WE ARE PREGNANT!!!!!! 11 weeks along to be exact. And we are so excited!!!!

We bought speakers for our theater room so this is Brooklyn helping Daddy install them. She is totally Daddy's little girl.

So much has happened this month it is crazy!!! First of all BJ got his Journeyman's license, which is a huge relief. We bought a jogging stroller so I can finally start to work off the baby fat...... it only took a year to get in the mood to do that. Brooklyn started walking... she still is not confident but if you stand in front of her she will walk to you. She can make it about half way across the room, then she gets nervous and takes a seat. And we are also getting ready to celebrate Brooklyn's first birthday next week!!!!! Wow time really flew!!

This is Brooklyn's new face she makes when she is upset with you.... and she breathes out her nose kinda like the dog panting... it cracks me up.

Brooklyn is 10 1/2 months old, she sings row row row your boat .... well it is more like RA RA RA RA RA RA but only does it to that song, say hi, dada, ah ah for no no and just kinda bables. You look back to last year and it went by way too quick. It is sad to look at pictures of her when she was brand new. Yup I going down that road..... We remember saying oh I wish she would wake up so we can play with her.... now it's please take a nap today. But at the same time you can't help but laugh when you are siting cross legged and she sit on your foot in the air and starts to bounce waiting for a ride. Or when you are reading/ singing to her and she start to sing also. My favorite is when BJ comes home and she puts her hand in the air and says HI DADA with a huge smile. She also just plays BJ for all he's worth... he tries to get her to stand (and she can for a few seconds) but she just sits, and if he walks away she will pull herself up on a toy, table or anything she can get her hands on, and will take 2 steps to get to him. She just wants to do it all herself. She wants to be with him from the moment he gets home and it is super cute.

In a month we will be getting ready to have a birthday party for a 1 year old and again looking back at this age and this point in time and think..... Where did it go

Yesterday was Brooklyn's 8 month birthday, and she decided for her present she was going to start crawling. We aren't sure just what clicked all of a sudden, but it is exciting to watch her go from one side of the room to the other. She is still a little shaky but she gets where she wants to go. And it is just so cute to watch her go. She has already gotten into 3 floor plants and I'm sure they haven't had the last of her.

Well two nights ago my mom and I were baking cookies, and Brooklyn was playing on the floor. I went to use the bathroom and my mom was looking at a magazine, and when I came out of the bathroom Brooklyn had pulled herself up with a chair and was standing!!!! It was so crazy we actually got to see her standing without our help. I am so excited, but at the same time scared now cause there is no turning back and we have a lot of baby proofing to do. These pictures are not of her first time standing, but I was so excited about it I didn't take any pictures when I first saw it happen.

Brooklyn can sit up, and only falls over every now and then. It is so crazy how quick they pick up on things they want to do. In this picture it looks like the couch could be holding her up, but it is really a few inches away..... just in case she fell over.

This has been a crazy month! Brooklyn is rolling all over the place getting stuck under the couch and pushing Riley off of his bed. She is a total steam roller, it is getting hard to put diapers on her she just wants to go. Brooklyn has also started to eat rice cereal and totally loves it, we didn't even get the nasty face that I thought we would get..... we got the happy "I want more" face. The only problem is I can't get it in her mouth fast enough, and thats when she get a little cranky. She is trying so hard to sit up by herself, and she can do it for a little while until she kind of spazes out and falls over. On the other hand BJ and I will now be in scouts we will be the Bear den leaders, I have no clue what to expect......... Boys that's all I know. Well..... I know there is more that happened this month but I can not think of them..... so enjoy our latest pictures.

New Milestones

Brooklyn went for her first swim, and loved it!! She did not enjoy getting out. She has also discovered her feet, and they are the best toys in her eyes. And she can now sit in her highchair and play with her toys instead of always being on the floor with them.

Brooklyn's 4 month birthday landed on pioneer day so my mother and I took Brooklyn to the festivities. It was a lot of fun..... there was games, music, dancing, eating contests, and old cars. Well this weekend we are doggy sitting Brig and Julie's dog Maggie. She is a little dog so we didn't want Riley to step on her and hurt her..... so we made her bed on a small table. Well Riley decided he liked that bed and Maggie ended up sleeping next to BJ that night. To say the least BJ didn't sleep much the first night. Last night both dogs slept on their own beds on the floor.... we all slept the whole night

New Tricks

Today was Brooklyn's blessing day. She looked so cute. Of course right as BJ and I were putting her dress on she spit up all over it. She didn't even wear it for one minute before getting it dirty. But she looked soooooo adorable in it any way. BJ gave her a wonderful blessing and both sets of Grandparents were able to be there to support us, and we are grateful for that.

Growing up

Well this past week I got my hair cut and dyed by Ben and I think it looks great! Our sister in law Lia and her kiddos came out to Utah and we have been having a blast with them. Julia our niece keeps saying about Brooklyn "she is so cute" and "She loves me". It is just so sweet. I will put some pictures of them up when I get some. And our big news this week is Brooklyn turned 3 months on the 24th and at 3 months and 1 day old Brooklyn decided that she is going to start rolling over, and now I can't keep her on her belly. Look out world here comes trouble!!!! It was so exciting but at the same time so sad, our baby is growing up too quickly! I will post a video of it soon so you all can see her and her new tricks. She also grabs her toys and screams and yells at them, to say the least I can never let go of my camera any more. And I must brag a little more Brooklyn has slept from 9pm to at least 5am every night sense see turned 2 months old. Well I will have many pictures and videos to post soon.

Two Months Old

Brooklyn had her two month appointment on May 26th and she was 21 1/2 inches long and 11.11 lbs. So to say the least she is getting huge. She has been sleeping 7 to 8 hours a night for the past 4 nights. I thought she was the best baby before.... now I know she is the best. We went to church for the first time on Sunday, and it was great no crying or anything. MY Mom and I have been trying to clean up my yard... which is a bigger project than it looks. And BJ has been doing his part too, he chopped all the dead branches out of the trees and put new lattice up on the porch. Finally our yard is starting to look nice. We have also been trying to paint and organize the inside of the house and let me tell you the two don't mix. But it is a fun project to do together. And last but not least We have decided to bless Brooklyn next month, which I'm super excited about.

Well Brooklyn is already one month and one week old. Amazing how quick time flies!!!!! Well we don't need to reminisce there are so many exciting things happening in our lives! First BJ passed his state test for electrical, which means he can take his Journeyman's test this summer. Ronda's sister came out with her family and her best friend Lindsay is visiting on the 6th. But the most has happened with Brooklyn...... she grabs and pulls any and everything she can get her hands on, she blows out a ton of diapers which is always so pleasant to clean up, and she laughs, smiles, and cries a lot more..... she knows what she wants now. And frankly she is just getting huge and it makes me sad!!!! But there is a plus side she is sleeping about 3 hours at a whack at night and 2 during the day, but she is still awake for one hour after each feeding which makes it hard at 3 in the morning when I want to sleep. But we only have to feed her every 3 to 4 hours which is alot nicer than every 2 hours.

Week two and another doctors visit

Well this week has lets say been tiring. Brooklyn has decided she doesn't want to sleep in her crib, she would much rather be in her car seat or in your arms. So to say the least that has been the project this week..... to get her in her crib. Brooklyn is only two weeks old but she definitely has a mind of her own. She is a night owl and we are not getting a ton of sleep. But when she smiles at you in the middle of the night..... when your thinking I just can't do this.... it makes it all worth it. She is awake for about one hour after every feeding so it is fun to play with her instead of just staring at her. Yesterday was her two week check-up and she got her heel pricked for her PKU test, and she let the doctor know that she did not like it. She now weighs 7.3 lbs and is 19.7 inches long, so she is gaining weight and getting chubby, which makes us very happy. BJ and I are stilling comming to the realization that we are parents.... we still saying "wow can you believe that she is ours, and that we are parents". I don't think we will ever get use to that title. But we are so glad to have her in our lives.

One Week Old

Well today is Brooklyn's one week birthday and she has already grown so much. Believe it or not she has rolled on to her side..... probably from a spastic movement but still it happened. She is becoming more active everyday she stays awake for about 15minutes after feedings so we get to see her smile and stare at us a lot more..... it is just so cute.Yesterday she had her first doctors visit and it went great. She weighs 6 lbs 11 oz so she is almost back up to her birth weight, and the doctor said that it can take up to two weeks for that to happen. She had a high rate on her billiruben test, so on Saturday BJ and I had to take her back to the hospital to check it again, and her score came back at 11.3 which the doctors said that she is fine and does not have to take it again. So over all we are still learning how to be good parents,but we have a great baby to learn with. She still only seems to cry when she is hungry or getting her diaper changed, so she's a keeper.

Welcome Brooklyn Marie Young

We named our beautiful baby girl Brooklyn Marie Young. She was born on March 24, 2009 at 2:46pm. She weighed 6lbs 13oz and she was 19 1/2 inches long. She had a little bit of an issue breathing but they put her on oxygen for a while and she is doing great. We came home on the 26th when it was snowing out, so she didn't get to wear the cute dress we had got for her. But there will be another day for it..... when it gets warm again. Her first night home was a little rough with the sleeping thing, but last night (night #2) went a lot better. She is just a really great baby, she only seems to cry when she is hungry or getting her diaper changed.... she does not like the cool air. Her cry is more of a ear piercing screech so she really lets you know if she does not like something. She has started to smile, which I didn't think would happen for a while, but it is so cute. She loves gazing at BJ, and loves listening to his voice. She is just a gorgeous baby and I'm glad to have her out of my belly and in my home. We will keep you updated on all the cute things she is doing and how well we are getting along.

Labor Story

Well on Tuesday the 24th at 7:30am I had my first contraction, it was not bad so I just went back to sleep. One hour later another contraction hit and then another at 9:30am at this point I thought well I will at least get out of bed and shower. I didn't think I was going to go into labor that day, so I went over to my parents house to take some final pregnancy pictures. At my parents house the contractions started getting stronger and closer together. My mother and I decided to go to the hospital and at least register and get checked out. I call BJ at work just to inform him on what was going on. We got to the hospital and check in and they checked me to see how dilated I was and it turns out I was at a 5 and still going. BJ called to see how I was and we decided he should get off of work and get to the hospital. About 45 minutes later BJ and Julie came in and we got ready to have a baby. The nurse tried to get my IV in and four pricks later she decided to get the anaesthesiologist to do it. That ended taking about 45 minutes to do. After that the doctor came in and broke my water. I asked if I could get some drugs to take the edge off and he said it was too late, and that she would be here before they kicked in. And about 4 pushes later we had the most beautiful baby I have ever seen. Don't get me wrong it was not as easy as it sounds it was the worst pain ever, but totally worth it.

Well yesterday I had my routine weekly doctors appointment. And we found out that I am dilated 2 1/2 centimeters. So technically we could have a baby within the next few days or it could take a few more weeks to officially go into labor. I guess we should decide on a name huh? But that is so hard to agree on. This waiting game is just so nerve racking, I wish I was psychic that way I could sleep with a restless mind, but no now I worry that I'm going to go into labor..... the worrying never ends!!!

THE BIG SURPRISE!!!!!!

Well we had just started the shower and mom was getting ready to play a game so she got everyones attention and then ran out of the room for a "prop" and that's when Janette popped out of nowhere!!!!! I started balling instantly, because I have the best sister in the world! And I saw some of you girls at the party cry too. It made my day on top of what started out great. So I Big Thank you to Janette for flying out from the island for my shower, I could never thank you enough!!!! I LOVE YOU!!!

Baby Shower

We had the best baby shower!!! We got everything a crib, stroller, high chair, blankets, diaper bags, clothes and toys. And more..... which is so hard to believe, but it's true!! I feel so incredibly loved by everyone. For everyone who was not able to go, you missed a crazy party! We invited about 60 people thinking that half would most likely show but no we had about 60 people!!! I have never seen such a party. I was so overwhelmed with the love for BJ and I, but we understand if you couldn't make it. So thank you to everyone for all the gifts and for being there to share the joy of having a new baby.

Baby Update

Well I am on partial bed rest, but there is no need to worry. The doctors are just taking a little extra precaution. We just want her to stay in as long as possible. Baby girl is about two and a half pounds and the doctors want her to start gaining weight a little quicker. So I just can't stress out... no problem... right? Now I get to worry about getting the house and BJ & I ready for this girl to come into our lives. Some days I wonder what were we thinking, but I know it will all work out in the end. I also have the joy of getting Riley (our dog) a little better acquainted with the smaller humans.... like not knocking them over cause he is excited to see a new face in the house. Lucky for me I get to test this out on my friends child and not a newborn baby. Well my next doctors appointment will be in just a couple weeks so lets just all hope and pray that everything is perfect.

Just getting BIGGER

I think I'm 29 weeks along. And I feel that I can't possibly stretch any more, but I know there is plenty more stretching to come. Nights are getting harder, I mean there is no getting comfortable any more. But it will be worth it in the end :) We finally registered at babiesRus.com and if anyone has any more ideas of what to get please let me know. I don't really know what to ask for. We will be having a shower on February 21 so be expecting an invitation in a month.... at least the far away family will get it then, and the closer friends/family will get them closer to date.

Remodel Update

Well in our home there is always a new remodeling project. Our on going project is finishing the basement before "Baby Girl" comes... well I am very happy to say that on the 12th we will get our carpet installed!!!!! And that will finish up the basement. So we will have a fully functional home.... well until we start getting the nursery going, which I think will be in a couple weeks.

IT'S A GIRL!!!

Yesterday we got our ultrasound done and we are having a beautiful baby girl. She is a half a pound, so she is like a hamberger. I have only gained five pounds, and it feels like it's all in my stomach. I can finally feel her kick and she is very active from about 9am to 11am and then I notice her being active at 10pm to midnight.

The Running of the Buffalo

We just happened to go the the Buffalo corral at the perfect time. We got to see the Buffalo get their vet check-up and released back to roam freely on the island. They did this for over 300 Buffalo..... We didn't stay that long. We just watched a few go through this process.

The Great Salt Lake

BJ and I this weekend went on a adventure to the Great Salt Lake. We went onto Antelope Island. We saw tons of Buffalo and no Antelope, which I thought was kind of Strange.
